Greece has a way of getting under your skin. Maybe it is the light that turns white walls gold at sunset, or the way the sea shifts from turquoise to deep blue depending on the hour. I have been visiting Greek islands for over a decade, and one thing I have learned is that where you stay shapes everything. Hotels can be comfortable, but they often insulate you from the rhythm of daily life here. That is why I now look for private apartments in Greece whenever I plan a trip.
